Recruitment
'Fishawack' is one interpretation by the early settlers of the name given by the North American Indians to the Passaic River in New Jersey, USA. More than 6 thousand years ago, the Lenni Lenape ('Original People') Indians migrated south from Canada in search of warmer climes. During their travels, the Lenape crossed the Passaic River at a shallow place they called 'the Crossing of the Fishawack'. Folklore has it that the Fishawack River confers good fortune on all those who bathe in her, and it continues to be honoured annually in the local Fishawack Festival.
